To say Newton was “good,” this year would be an understatement. Newton was historically good, even great, both as a runner and passer.

Through the air, Newton completed 67 percent of his passes, tossing for an impressive 2,589 yards and 28 touchdowns, while only getting picked off six times. And the scary thing is, on the ground he may have been even better, finishing 10th nationally with 1,409 yards rushing, and 20 touchdowns. Not too bad for a first year, transfer starter, huh?

Of course if there is one team that can go point for point, and score for score with the Tigers, it’s the Oregon Ducks.

We mentioned how Newton enters this College Football Bowl Game Betting matchup as historically great, well so too is this Oregon offense. On the year, they ranked No. 1 in total offense, tallying 542 yards on the ground, while the 49 points per game they scored was also first nationally.

And just like Auburn, the Ducks prefer to keep things on the ground, with back LaMichael James. On the year, James finished first in college football with 21 rushing touchdowns (one ahead of Newton), and fourth overall in rushing with over 1,600 yards. Quarterback Darron Thomas gave the Ducks balance, throwing for 2,518 yards and 28 touchdowns. He threw just one in the Ducks final four games.

Obviously it goes without saying, that in the end, this game will be a war of attrition that comes down to which defense can make a stop or two on defense. And we’ve got to give the edge to Auburn.

Looking at the raw statistics with the Tigers, they don’t appear to be that good, but what you need to know, is that with the game on the line, nobody is better.

Against Mississippi State they gave up zero second half points, forced four South Carolina turnovers in the first matchup of those two teams, and held the high scoring Alabama Crimson Tide to just three points after halftime on the road in their rivalry game. This defense doesn’t make every play, but it makes the big plays down the stretch when they need to.

Come late Monday night, Auburn will be celebrating a BCS National Championship with all their fans in Glendale, AZ. You’ll be celebrating yourself, if you take the Tigers as your College Bowl Game Betting pick.
