The Jeremy Lin craze is far from over and the record-breaking young guard is putting himself up against the reigning champion Dallas Mavericks on Sunday. Not only has the Harvard alum shattered the most optimistic of expectations, he’s emerged as an unlikely best-debut-ever candidate both on the court and the NBA betting line.
But let’s not get ahead of ourselves without looking at the implication’s Lin’s success has had on the bottom line. Prior to the point guard’s debut, the New York Knicks were fringe Eastern Conference playoff contenders with 40/1 odds of winning the NBA championship.
Seven starts in to the man’s career (and seven wins), those same Knicks are up to 18/1.
That New York has managed to win consistently and convincingly with Lin running the show (literally, Carmelo Anthony remains sidelined with an injury) speaks to the man’s impact. Will the win streak last? Will the hype?
Lin’s emergence as a phenomenon has put the Knicks on the basketball betting radar in every imaginable way. Over/under bettors will find that New York’s season win total is set now as high as 36.5? Will they reap the reward of some more last-second heroics from another Lin buzzer beater before the season draws to a close?
Or – and let’s be serious here – are you willing to step completely on the bandwagon and bet on the NBA MVP race, where Lin sits at an impressively high 40/1 odds.
